About SSFD

On behalf of Southside Fire/EMS and Security I would like to welcome you to our site. Whether you are a subscribing member, employee, potential volunteer or just "surfing", we hope you will stay awhile and see what we are all about. When speaking with people about the department, I am often asked, "Why do I have to pay for a private fire subscription? Isn't that handled by my taxes?" It is an interesting question with a very simple answer. Unincorporated Chatham County does not have a government funded fire service. Southside Fire Department is a not for profit combination service that provides fire protection for areas not covered by a city or township jurisdiction. However, Southside Fire Department does so much more than just fight fire. Come join us at our volunteer drills or stop by a station to say hello. We would love to show you why we are proud to call ourselves Southside Fire/EMS and Security.
